The most common questions asked during your job interview

A job interview is often a necessary step when you’re trying to land a new job. During such an interview, the company you want to work for can get to know you better. But it works both ways: this is also your chance to see if the company is a good fit for you. During such an interview, you’ll be asked various questions. Not only to assess your skills, but also to get a sense of who you are as a person. These are questions you’ll almost always be asked, and they can help determine whether you’re a good fit for the company and suitable for the job. Let’s take a look at the most common interview questions. How can you best answer these questions to leave a lasting impression?

1. Could you briefly introduce yourself?

Please briefly tell us a little about yourself, where you're from, and why you think you're qualified for this job.

2. Why are you interested in this Function?

Why do you think you’d enjoy this job? What appeals to you about it? It could be something like, “I love what you do,” or “I think I’m really good at this.”

3. What are your strengths?

What makes you great? Tell us something you’re really good at and give an example. Ideally, share something that’s relevant to the job. But since this can be a tough question to answer, you can also answer it another way: What would your best friend or a family member say about you in this regard?

4. What are your weaknesses?

Everyone has something they're not so good at. Share something, but also mention how you're working on it. Nobody's perfect, right?

5. How do you deal with stress or busy periods?

Something like, “I stay calm and take things one step at a time. A good playlist with some relaxing music can also work wonders.”

6. Where do you see yourself in five years?

What are your dreams? Maybe something like, “I can still see myself working here with enthusiasm, hopefully with some additional responsibilities.”

7. What do you know about our company?

Imagine you were doing research for an exciting project. Name a few cool or interesting things you discovered.

8. Do you have any questions for us?

Mention something like, “If I’m going to be working here every day, where will my go-to lunch spot be?” It shows that you’re thinking about the day-to-day details, too.

9. How do you handle collaboration and working in a team?

Tell a funny story about a time when you and your coworkers achieved something big. Teams can be amazing, right?

Remember that personality and honesty are important. Be authentic and use specific examples to back up your answers. It’s also a good idea to practice answering these questions so that you come across as confident and well-prepared during the interview.
