Difference between a forklift and a reach truck

The difference between a forklift and a reach truck

  • Forklifts can lift loads up to 4.5 meters, while reach trucks can reach heights of up to 12 meters.
  • A reach truck has one rear wheel positioned in the center, which allows for a tight turning radius and more efficient maneuvering in narrow aisles.
  • In a forklift, you sit facing straight ahead; in a reach truck, you sit turned 90 degrees, which gives you a different field of view.
  • Reach trucks are only permitted to be operated indoors, whereas forklifts, thanks to their pneumatic tires, may also be used outdoors and on public roads.

Take a reach truck training course

Just as with forklift operation, it is Function that you complete reach truck training before operating a Function reach truck. This will help you prevent accidents, understand the potential hazards, and ensure you work safely.

If you successfully complete the training, you will receive an officially recognized certificate that you must carry with you at work. Your reach truck certificate is similar to a driver’s license for a car, but it serves as proof that you are authorized to operate a reach truck.

UBN partners with a specialized training institute where you can take reach truck training courses or refresher courses. Important to know:

  • The duration of the training depends on your experience driving a reach truck. The maximum duration is 2 days.
  • The reach truck training course consists of a theoretical and a practical component.
  • The reach truck certification is valid for 5 years.
  • You may operate a reach truck starting at age 16 if you have a reach truck certification, but only under supervision. Starting at age 18, you may operate a reach truck independently if you have a reach truck certification.

What do I need to know?

This is a great opportunity—and it’s completely free! But of course, we do ask for something in return.

If you enroll in a training program or course to earn a diploma or certificate, there are a number of requirements:

  • In exchange for free training, you must continue to work for UBN for at least a certain period of time. Otherwise, you will have to repay a portion of the cost. This depends on how much you have worked since completing the training.
  • If you fail the test or do not attend the training program, you must reimburse UBN Employment Agency for the cost of the program within two months.
